Brief Description:  Misc engine work, Part 2

After getting the brackets finished, I rigged up the mixture bellcrank to see how the assembly fit. Aside from having to reposition the actuator arm, it all worked pretty well. There will be a lot of adjustment necessary once the cables are attached, but at least I know how the mixture works. I briefly considered installing the throttle and mixture cables, but without having studied the firewall penetration location and methods, I elected to wait for awhile on that.

Since I had already removed and replaced a couple of sump case bolts, I decided to attach the fuel supply line that came off when I put the mixture bracket on. Side note—that particular hose was not the fuel supply hose, and the 30 minutes I spent trying to make it fit was not some of my most productive time. When I found the correct hose and fittings, the process was a little easier, but still fairly tight. Some Adel clamp work to get the hose secured to the fuel inlet line and adjusted to clear all components actually took the longest amount of time. Adel clamps are necessary, but not fun to install. And there are a bunch of them forward of the firewall. I may still need a clamp on the aft side where the hose passes under the engine mount—it actually touches, but there are no sharp edges, so I think I’ll be ok if I just clamp it securely.

Finally, I started work on the cable that runs from the starter relay to the starter solenoid. This is a heavy cable that snakes from the firewall, runs along the right side of the sump, crosses under the engine case just above the throttle body, and then makes a hard right to the starter. It will need to be secured in at least three places and will require a fair amount of work to get done correctly. Enough for one day.
