Brief Description:  Up on the main gear!

After leaving the hangar on Sunday with no idea on how the brakes attached to the brake mount, I spent some time discussing with Ross and reading every schematic I could find on the Matco website. It turns out that I was over thinking the whole process. Oh...and the reference in the builder's manual to "bolt the caliper to the brake attach bracket" was for a different brake. I guess Van's has changed vendors since the manual was printed. With apologies to Ronald Reagan, "trust by verify" has become my standard with regards to what is printed in the manual.

Back out to the hangar to see what I could get done. First I trimmed a bit off of the fairing attach brackets to allow them to fit better, and then I reattached both brake mounts on the gear legs. With that done, I decided to take a look at the wheels and tires. With Ross as my technical advisor, I started the process of packing the bearings and airing up the tires. In relatively short order, we had one wheel on the right side.

It seemed a shame to leave it with just one wheel, so I decided to spend a few extra minutes and finish the left side. For the first time since I started, my project is mobile! I still have to check clearances on the wheels and brackets, as well as drill the axles after tightening the attach nuts, but for the most part, the wheels are done.
