Brief Description:  Sensor wiring and wire bundle organization

I made significant progress on the firewall forward wiring today, completing the following:

• Wired the fuel, oil & manifold pressure sensors using knife splices and heat shrink. My logic is that I may have to occasionally replace a sensor, so hard wiring them didn’t make sense to me. The knife splices are quite bulky compared to the wires themselves, so it does make for a somewhat messy lump in the bundle…but they are definitely secure. Each sensor ops tested good on the G3X.

• Attached the oil temperature and tachometer leads to the respective wires from the G3X and incorporated them in the aft bundle. Then I secured the bundle to the engine mount with a couple of Adel clamps and a bunch of zip ties. I decided that normal white zip ties would be suitable here, so I saved my high heat zip ties for applications forward of the engine mount.

• Wired the fuel flow sensor and secured the wires to the starter cable, incorporating the primary alternator field and p-lead wires as they traversed aft. Next I moved to the right side CHT & EGT bundles and secured everything with high heat zip ties.

• Secured the left side CHT & EGT bundles with high heat zip ties and finished up by securing all of the magneto leads with the remaining zip ties.

With that, there are only a few wiring tasks left before I reinstall the prop governor cable and finish up the aft of the engine with the installation of the standby alternator. Then it will be on to permanently installing the airbox and putting the prop on for good.
