Brief Description:  Power and ground cables cont.

After finally getting the starter cable in place, I decided to continue working on the electrical system by attaching the engine case ground. This particular 2 AWG cable attaches to the firewall by screwing into a nutplate that I had installed prior to mounting the engine...thankfully.

The cable attaches to the engine block on a lug that is "forward of the lower left engine mount cup and left and above the fuel pump." These directions, while sounding pretty specific, didn't help much. The drawing was useless as it merely showed the connector extended in space. A flashlight and some poking around finally revealed the lug...which was merely a hole in a bracket conveniently located roughly where the notes in the plans suggested.

Before I did anything, I grabbed some sandpaper to remove the paint on the case in order to ensure a good electrical contact. Then, after getting a bolt through the assembly, it required a bit of grinding on one of my 3/8" wrenches to get it narrow enough to fit, but when that was done, it was a piece of cake to tighten.

I wrapped things up by starting the process of sorting out the power harness that I had purchased from Van's all those years ago. The third picture shows the results of that. Wiring is going to take awhile.
