Today I finished up the battery box and continued work on the cowling. I have a feeling the cowling is going to be a challenge. The basic premise is this: two separate pieces of molded fiberglass are installed along the firewall and meet to form a perfectly round circle some three feet forward. Lots of opportunity for error, and there is no doubt I will be filling and sanding in a number of spots.
When I first attached the top cowling, I needed to trim about ¼” off of the right side, but now, no matter how I position it, it appears that the trimming was unnecessary. This is going to lead to an uneven gap in front, so I will likely have to add about ¼” of additional glass up front to even things out. Time will tell.
