Brief Description:  Aft skirts

Headed out to the hangar with no definite plan, but knew that the canopy was probably where I would start. The aft skirts continue to be a bit of a challenge--especially the left side in the lower corner where the skirt transitions off of the canopy and onto the side skirt. It is here that it tends to pull away from the skin most prominently and I'm sure it will be a source of annoyance if there is a chance of getting water in there when the aircraft is sitting on the ground.

There is one other small issue with the left skirt, and that has to do with a couple of rogue holes that I drilled before I realized I was a bit off track. It is for this reason that I may elect to redo the left skirt--I'll decide before I go too much further.

The assembly that joins the two aft skirts together is aptly named the "doghouse" due to its appearance that makes it look like that place we all live occasionally. There is a small nylon seal that fits inside the opening to ostensibly close it off from the majority of air and water that might enter. This block must be fabricated per the plans, so I used a razor blade to shape it to the correct specifications. Lots of up and down the ladder to check fit and trim. Nothing too interesting there.

After I was finished with that chore, I got the wing on the workbench so that I could comply with AD 06-02-23, which requires the fuel pickup tube attach nut to be safety wired. The right wing was done during construction, so this has been hanging over my head for awhile. That will be the job for tomorrow.
