Brief Description:  Canopy finish work

After I finished the new latch hook, I started working on the final fit and installation of the side skirts. In order to make sure everything fit properly, I climbed in, latched the canopy in place, and then fit the skirts from the inside. Once that was done, back out to the bench and install a screw in every other hole to hold the plexi in place while I riveted the skirt braces.

The lower edge of the skirt braces attach only to the skirts themselves—no attachment to anything permanently on the canopy frame. It seemed that this would be a good place to start just in case I encountered a “Doh!!” moment. With the skirts and braces now attached together, it was back to the fuselage for a test fit.

All in all, not too bad, but there is still a lot of fitting to be done…and, I haven’t even started the aft skirts. I honestly didn’t realize how much work a sliding canopy is. But, had I known, I still would have wanted one.
