Brief Description:  Canopy trimming

With the temperatures holding in the mid-70s, it was back out to the hangar this afternoon to do more drilling and cutting on the canopy. Temp in the hangar was 84...woohoo, at least one more day to get something done on this thing!

After removing all of the clecoes, I used a Unibit to open the plexi holes up to 1/8" and then reattached the canopy to mark it for the final trim cut along the aft edge. With about 3/4" of an inch overhang required, the mark was made and the RotoZip was out for cutting. About halfway through the cut I noticed my hands were getting pretty warm...ok, hot...and then suddenly the RotoZip revved...and died. I have no idea what happened, but my RotoZip decided to pack it in mid-cut. With the RotoZip smoking on the floor, I pondered my options.

Out comes my mini die grinder--emphasis on mini. With 90 psi in the compressor and the die grinder doing its best, it took me about twice as long, but eventually the scraps fell to the floor and the cut was done. Lots of sanding and the edges are good for now.
