Brief Description: Center section preparation
Today was the first day back after a long break for work and family. It's good to be back at it...now realizing this project is a 6-7 year hitch instead of the 4 I had originally hoped for. Life!
I spent most of the time today getting reaquainted with all of the parts and finishing up a little fabrication work. When I last worked on the project, I had made some errors in a couple of wire run holes and two ribs. I first replaced the bad ribs, then set about fixing the wire run holes. As the right hand photo shows, the holes were drilled about 1/2 inch outboard of the correct location. To fix, I simply trimmed the rib back enough at the hole to allow a snap bushing to fit. I will put a rubber grommet over the bare metal edge to ensure there is no wire rubbing in that location.
With all of that done I cut the holes for the steps and trimmed the rib as shown in the left drawing. Based on my initial fitting, I suspect there will be a little more trimming involved, but for now, it's fine. Finally, I finished match drilling a few spots and am about ready for disassembly, deburring, dimpling, and priming.
