Brief Description:  Fuselage bulkhead preparation

Today's session had me jumping around from riveting AN470 rivets, to AN426 rivets, to tapping, to assembly...these tasks require a fair amount of plans study (to get the rivet callouts correct), rivet set changeouts, etc. In short, there is a lot of "busy" work with not much obvious progress. I started by riveting all of the bulkead pieces together. There are a lot of places where you don't rivet at this stage, so careful plans study is in order...as in the past, I generally tape over the holes that don't get a rivet to avoid having to drill rivets out.

After riveting the bulkheads and associated parts together, I riveted the longeron attach brackets on to the forward two bulkheads. I couldn't find anywhere in the builder's manual that mentioned doing this, but they're pretty straightforward, so on they went. I did have to shoot one rivet on each bracket (due to interference with part of the bracket) so I kept the rivet gun out to shoot the F-710 and F-711 bulkheads. I've found that it's almost easier to shoot and buck than it is to set up the squeezer--especially when there are multiple rivets that are different sizes and access to the part by the squeezer is limited. Everything went roughly according to plan and at the end of the day, I was ready to bend the longerons and start the fuselage assembly.
