Brief Description:  Firewall prep

The firewall, as it comes from Van's, is a large, 4-sided stainless steel knife blade with lots of holes in it. The initial process in preparing the firewall involves filing the edges, then clecoing all of the various stiffeners, gussets, and plates in place for match drilling. The firewall construction utilizes flushhead rivets on the front side, so after drilling and deburring, I will have to dimple it and countersink the frontside of all of the various components.

There are too many different components to mention by name (note to FAA...they are all listed in the plans...which I'm following religiously), so suffice it to say that they all got match drilled and deburred. I heeded the advice in the plans and used a lot of Boehlube...glad I did, as Stainless is quite tough on drill bits.

One little mistake necessitated a remake of one bracket, but that was about all of the bad news...the rest was pretty straighforward. It's fun to be working on something other than wings for a change!
