Brief Description: Fuel line & brake line installation
An up and down session at the hangar this morning as I attempted to fit the fuel lines to the fuel selector. The initial fitting, bending, etc, seemed to go pretty well and I was able to get the lines adjusted so that they seemed to be in about the right setup. The challenge came when I started to make the final adjustments and then flare the lines. During the bending of the right side lines I must have put a very slight excess bend near the top--just enough that the flare bushing wouldn't go over it.
I really had no choice but to cut the line below the bend and hope I had enough left to make it all work. During the time I was bending (by hand as I couldn't get the tubing bender in position) I got another slightly flattened area in the tubing. I'm going to check to see what the allowance is for that type of imperfection and hope that it's just cosmetic--in that case I won't care because it will be under a cover.
After getting the fuel lines in, I started working forward on the line that goes to the fuel pump. The brackets I made previously seem to be just what I need for the job and the initial fitting went pretty well. At that point I moved to the fuel vent lines where I ran into some trouble bending the tight curves that are required to clear the longeron and rudder cables. After putting a crimp in one of the lines I decided to quit for the day. I'll evaluate tomorrow and make some decisions on how to proceed.
