Brief Description:  Forward structure and skin prep

Today was all about figuring out the forward structure and how everything fits together. During the last session I spent some time working on the forward canopy decks and side rails, and before I got too serious about riveting them in place I wanted to make sure I knew how everything was supposed to fit. I finished drilling and countersinking the rails and canopy decks and clecoed them in place to start working on the forward section.

The plans are vastly different between a tip up and a slider, so I made sure I was referencing the proper plans and started clecoing things together. Once I had the F-7107 ribs in place, I put the three sub panels in and started fitting the F-7108 rib. While the two outboard ribs use -4 rivets to attach to firewall, the center rib utilizes a bracket made of angle aluminum. Fabricating that didn't take too long, and once the forward flange was bent to 25 deg, I test fitted and then drilled it to the rib.

That done I fabricated a plate that attaches to the aft section of the F-7108. Although I'm not sure yet, I'm guessing that this plate simply strengthens the rib at the point where the windshield attaches. We shall see.

Finally I clecoed the top skin in place and called it good for the day. 100 degrees in the hangar when I quit...I need a big fan.
