Brief Description:  Finished flaps

I finished the left flap in short order by riveting the hinge in place and then riveting the outboard rib. The aft most holes in both inboard and outboard ribs would have been very difficult to shoot--not unlike the setup on the ailerons, elevators, etc.--so I elected to again use a 7/64" Cherry Max type of blind rivet in these locations. I find that this technique speeds construction and precludes any damage to the rib or skin. Is it "perfect"? Nope. But it is just fine by me.

The right flap went quickly as I used the lessons I had learned from the previous session. About the only thing that went wrong was that I once again riveted the flap attach brackets to the spar before I attached it to the inboard rib. When you do that, you have effectively lost any access to the rivets on the inboard rib/skin area...not so good since this area bears a good portion of the load on the flap and must be structurally sound. Five minutes and a pile of aluminum shavings and the part was removed and construction continued.

At the end of the session, I clamped the flaps in place to begin the process of aligning them with the ailerons and drilling the hinge for final attachment.
