Brief Description:  Wing installation

After the engine was hung, I had three Bubbas standing around...so why not install the wings? I had to drill out and dimple the lower fuselage skin to accomodate the #8 screws that attach the wing skin, but after that, the actual wing install took about 10 minutes since all of the fitting had been done previously.

With the wings in place, I spent the next couple of hours installing the close tolerance bolts and screws under the fuselage. I did run into a slight challenge on the left side due to installing two bolts before I looked at the plans and realized that the washers go on the bolt head side (aft) rather than on the normal thread end. This is compounded by the fact that the gear mount makes it impossible to get a drift pin on the bolt in order to pound it back out and install the washer. Not sure what I will do to fix that.

The last little challenge is that I have no idea how I'm going to get a torque wrench on the lower nuts--all four of them are almost completely blocked by the gear mount. I can now see why building a tail dragger is easier--at least in this regard. This is a challenge for another session.

All in all, a very productive day!
