Brief Description:  Spar and skin prep for riveting

This was one of those days where a lot was accomplished, and yet at the end of the session, it actually looked like I went backwards! I removed all of the wing skins and began deburring. Because I don't have the patience to debur over a thousand holes at once, I elected to alternate deburring and dimpling. I started with the top outboard skin by deburring all the holes and then dimpling what I could reach with the pneumatic squeezer. I had my first "miss" with the squeezer...yes, I now have a small extra hole just below the rivet line! I had no problem flattening out the errant dimple with a flush rivet set, and the hole will be over the spar flange so it will eventually be filled and won't be noticeable, but I sure felt stupid!I spent quite a bit of time deburring and dimpling all of the structure--ribs and the aft spar. I then took a countersink in my cordless screwdriver and "touched up" the dimples in the aft spar as detailed in Van's construction notes. I've learned over the last year that if Van's says "do it", I probably need to, but this was a "huh?" kind of task--I have to believe the skin will fit better by doing so. I also spent some time touching up (and finishing) the countersinking of the main spar flange where the skins attach. At first, I was too tentative and the dimpled skin would not rest within the countersinks, so I had to go back and take a little more off. Now they fit flush and won't gap or pillow between rivets.
