Brief Description:  Wing leading edge

Although I can't find it, I have a small air leak in the tank (or the manometer fittings). I placed the tank in the basement to obtain a stable temperature, and the pressure still falls to ambient over a 2-day period. I have been over it twice with soapy water and found nothing. My next step will be to re-pressurize it and spray it a little more thoroughly with soapy water--sounds like a job for the garage! Failing to find the leak that way, I may resort to using some of the dye I've read about. While the leak check was in progress, I started to work on the rest of the wing. I took the leading edge off and began prepping the parts for riveting. First, I removed the W-423 splice plate and enlarged the edge holes to accept a #8 screw from the tank skin. Then I drilled the screw holes to accept platenuts and dimpled all of the holes. After this, I attached the platenuts, then mixed up a small amount of primer and primed the splice plate and the inboard rib. I decided to continue and get at least a little riveting done, so I worked the edges of the skin, deburred and dimpled all of the holes, then spent some time adjusting the ribs in place to ensure the skin was perfectly fit before riveting. After making sure things fit, I dialed in 38 psi (that number seems to be best for AD3-3.5 rivets), and began shooting the rivets. Since I was home alone, I thought I'd handle the first few by myself, but found I was getting good results without assistance, so I pressed on. Got about half of the top rivets in before I decided to stop for the night.
