Brief Description:  Attached vertical stabilizer

This was the day to attach the vertical stabilizer. For a couple of weeks I had been wondering how I was going to drill out the four lower holes on the aft spar as I was going to have to drill from inside out due to having made the holes during the installation of the aft bulkhead. This issue was solved by using an angle drill attachment on my Dremel tool with a 1/8" bit that I cut off with a RotoZip. The actual drilling was pretty easy and once the initial holes were made, I was able to go back with a #19 bit and finally a 3/16" reamer to finish the job.

The forward spar attaches with an angled plate that must be fitted to ensure the forward edge of the stabilizer is canted 1/4" inch to the left of centerline. To facilitate this the plate has a joggle and the upper portion is riveted while the lower part is bolted to the horizontal stabilizer spar.

Lots of measuring and adjusting, but not too difficult to get installed. I still have to torque all of the bolts down, but this part of the project is about finished.
