Brief Description:  Organized & inventoried

I realized that I had reached my mental capacity for clutter and disorganization at the point when I would spend 20 minutes staring at piles of half-finished projects before I got any meaningful work done each time I came to the hangar. Today I decided that if I was going to have an organized electrical system (desirable), that it was worth my time to get the shop area cleaned up, inventory all of my parts, and put a plan in place for the upcoming work.

As amazing as Van’s is, they still do things that baffle me, such as putting all of the hardware for a single project in one small bag. That means you’ll find screws, rivets, washers, nuts, and an assortment of other hardware in a bag marked somewhat mysteriously “865”…or “716-1”…etc.

Unfortunately, the plans don’t always explain what that bag’s contents are intended for. What that means is that there is usually a fair amount of hunting for clues, trying to figure out the intended destination on the project. I finally decided that a rivet is a rivet, and that I could save myself some valuable time by just putting all of the AN426 3-5 rivets in one bin…and all of the AN426 3-4 rivets in another…and all of the Adel clamps in one…you get the point.

The only damper on the day was the fact that the batteries in the label maker died, mid first label…bummer. Temporary marking with blue masking tape got me far enough along for the day…tomorrow we continue on!
