I had hoped to get enough done today that I could contact the FSDO and schedule my airworthiness inspection. I’m close, but will probably need next weekend to finish up the laundry list of small tasks still remaining. I was able to accomplish the following though: • Installed the shoulder harnesses • Installed the passenger seat • Temporarily installed the aft baggage bulkhead. This will come back out for fitting the Classic Aero bulkhead cover, but I needed to trim the bulkhead just a bit to clear the aft canopy support bolt. • Removed all plastic from the canopy • Attached the spinner with stainless screws and nylon washers • Fitted the top and bottom cowls and checked for clearance from the spinner—good all around. • Drilled out the right wing tie down fitting hole (for some reason I didn’t do that before putting the skin on) and installed the tie down ring. • Final fitted the canopy latching handle, attached the spring and installed the assembly. • Weighed both main gear (each one around 410 lbs, so right on target). I’ll have to bring my motorcycle jack out to raise the nose gear. I really hope that next weekend is the one where I sign the logbook and declare the aircraft safe for operation. It won’t be long now.
