Brief Description:  Cowl & flap installation

I started the day out by finishing the camlocks on the right and left sides…same process as yesterday. There was a lot of “on and off” with the top cowl as I wanted to ensure that each camlock was in the best possible place to hold the whole assembly together. After a couple of hours I had everything except the bottom done—and those can wait until later. There is still a lot of adjusting to do, and I will have a bunch of filling, trimming and other cosmetic work, but the cowl is installed.

Once I was happy with the cowl, I moved to the flaps to get the motor installed, wired and ops checked. After looking over the electrical schematic to make sure I had it right, I climbed back under the panel and wired the flap switch. This required a couple of short 18 AWG jumpers, but everything else had been done before the panel was installed. The motor assembly had all been finished previously, so aside from putting the actuator assembly back in the fuselage and connecting the pushrods, that process was pretty straightforward. Once I had everything installed, wired and double checked, I turned on the Master Switch to raise and lower the flaps. Success!

I finished up the day by working on the oil filler access door, the last bit of assembly on the upper cowl. I didn’t quite get it finished, but it shouldn’t take long. With that, I stepped back and realized I had no more fabrication, construction or assembly to do. I have officially moved to the point of finishing…lots of work left, but I’m almost done. Great feeling!
