Brief Description:  Avionics rack and component installation

Out of town for the weekend so I took a couple of days off work to catch up on a few things. Since I didn’t get a chance to do any work on the RV, I headed out this morning before it got too hot and continued work on the avionics installation.

The primary order of the day was to finish up the basic design of my forward avionics rack and start putting components in their final places. The rack is designed to hold the GTX 23 and both GTR 20s underneath, so that leaves the top pretty wide open for other things. I decided to see if the GEA 24 engine interface would fit in the outboard bay, and it did, so that became the new home for that box. I had originally intended to mount it on the forward rib, but the support bracket for the avionics rack is now in the way, so it made sense to move it there. The third picture shows the final location of the box—I had to fabricate a couple of angles out of .032 to make it work, but I was pleased with how it came out.

The rack itself is designed to be removable…in fact, my plan is to have the rack swing down in order to facilitate installation and removal of the boxes, and the second picture shows how I hope it will work. To that end, I decided to only rivet the vertical brackets in place—everything else will get an AN3 bolt to give me the capability to remove when necessary. After finishing the basic design and installation of the avionics rack, I drilled the GDL 39 to the front of the right subpanel and quit as the temp in the hangar reached 95…gotta love summer in Kansas!
