Brief Description:  Fuel supply lines

The goal for tonight was to apply my renewed confidence for tubing bending and plumb at least one wing tank to the fuel selector valve. In the end, I got both wing tanks done. Practice makes competent in this case.

The biggest challenge in the past (and well documented in other posts) is to snake the tube through two support brackets, a slight S-turn through the gear mount, another larger S-turn out of the gear mount to the fuselage pass-through, and finally a slight jog up to the tank bulkhead fitting. All of this without scratching the tubing and then having enough space to flare the tubing at the wing end. I solved this by cutting a piece of tubing about 18" longer than necessary and using a piece of vinyl tubing in each tight spot to serve as a guide and sleeve to protect the tubing. Working from inside out, I fed the tubing through and then extended it above the wing to flare it. Once that was done, I pulled it back in, gently bending downwards as I went until it was in the correct alignment, and then pushed it back to the fitting.

The only challenge left was to bend the tubing in the fuselage to meet the Andair valve at the appropriate spot. I have found that if I make the first bend down, it gives me a bit more capability (and room) to make the 90 degree bend back up to the fitting. Using an inexpensive tubing bender to allow for the more complex bend without kinking, I was able to get two acceptable bends. Flare, blow out the lines, and attach. I'm pretty sure these are keepers.
