Brief Description:  Finishing throttle quadrant sub panel

As I’ve posted previously in this log, the throttle quadrant sub panel is oddly enough a key component necessary to complete the firewall forward work. The reason for this is that the propeller cable must be attached to the governor before I can install the standby alternator, which sits immediately above the prop governor. Previous posts have also detailed the challenge of removing and reattaching the prop governor cable as there is almost no access, and the whole assembly must be removed in order to extract the bolt holding the cable end bearing in place. Due to all of that, I had unscrewed (1/6 a turn at a time) the cable from the bearing so that I could pull the cable and remove the panel. The last few posts deal with remaking the subpanel and getting it primed and painted.

After waiting for a week to allow the clear coat to harden, I wet sanded it with 400 grit sandpaper and then used masking tape to provide a nice straight line for aligning the dry transfer decals. Once I was happy with the alignment, I used a metal stylus to transfer the decals to the panel. The process is pretty simple, but they do damage pretty easily, so I’m glad I made two of each. Once the decals were on, I applied four light coats of clear coat and it was done. I’m very pleased with the results!
