Brief Description:  Flap construction

First day back to work in over two months!! I spent the better part of May and June traveling and dealing with family and work issues...not the best way to get an airplane built, but in the long run, far more important!

Today I just kind of eased back into construction by working on the flaps. I first reorganized my workspace, and then I assembled the flaps and match drilled everything. One of the things I can't figure out is why most of the kit fits perfectly together, but every now and then you run into a thing like the flap ribs and aft spar--they are supposed to butt against one another, but the ribs are about 1/16" too short. The building instructions call out a thin shim if necessary...why not just make the ribs longer? Oh well...

After drilling all the skins, I fabricated the flap attach brackets using the bandsaw and belt sander...pretty quick work. Then it was a bunch of measuring, drilling, and deburring before calling it quit for the day. I'll be back at it this weekend!!
