Brief Description:  Max gross weight testing

There has been a lot more flying than building lately, but that is to be expected at this stage! Flight testing has gone well, and although I’ve certainly found a few things that need to be addressed, overall I’ve been very pleased with the progress in Phase 1.

Today I carted 180lbs of weight out to the hangar and carefully strapped it in the passenger seat. With me, my passenger & full fuel, we tipped the scales at just shy of 1,800lbs. One of the primary goals was to determine if my aircraft had a heavy wing, and also to test the max gross weight operational limit. All went well and I was very happy to see the aircraft fly pretty much level, hands off, when airborne. I’m closing in on my first oil change, so that will be an interesting experiment to see how difficult it is to facilitate with the GPS antennas sort of in the way. I suspect I’ll end up removing at least one to make access easier.

I plan to put the aircraft down over the Christmas break and start working on the following list of stuff:
• Install wheel pants and gear leg fairings
• Run wire for seat heat and 12Vdc power to the cabin
• Install glareshield LED lights
• Secure the roll servo attach screw with a “keeper” provided by TruTrak
• Change wiring between the GTN 625, GDU 465 and Vizion 385 to facilitate the addition of a GAD 29 box. This will make all of the avionics components play more nicely together.
• Tons of cosmetic work left to do on the cowling!
