Brief Description:  More misc finish work

Another day of checking things off on the list of finish work.
• Tom stopped by around 11:00 and we (he) reinstalled the magnetos. I cannot thank him enough for all of the help he has provided during the building process. The magneto install took about an hour and a half, but aside from the hassle of working in the tight confines behind the engine, it was pretty straightforward. My job was to reinstall the P-leads and ground leads, tighten cap screws and install the tach sensor…the easy stuff.
• Did a much more intensive static check which involved changing the aft fuselage fitting (which had been installed very early on during fuselage build) to a much more robust (airtight) fitting. I also found a fitting under the panel that was only finger tight, so once I rechecked the system I had a very minor leak, but I’m almost to IFR standards, so that’s good.
• While I was in the aft fuselage I adjusted the pitch servo arm to a more acceptable travel limit and tightened the remaining attach bolts
• Continued with the process of securing the remaining wiring under the panel…almost done.
• Checked the starter in preparation for the first engine start. This involved running an additional wire from the starter solenoid up to the solenoid on the starter. What? Yep…two solenoids. It turns out that the plans offer two versions of starter wiring, one for a “standard” starter which relies on the firewall solenoid for control, and the other for mine. In this version, the “lightweight” starter option (never really defined) there is a second solenoid on the starter, so you have to run a 16 AWG lead from the firewall start solenoid to the solenoid on the starter. After about an hour’s worth of wiring, I had that done, made the big key turn, and was rewarded with the prop spinning through a couple of turns. I think it will start…
