Brief Description: Prop bolts & misc finish work
I did a little more research on the whole subject of propeller safety wire. During the process yesterday I referenced the Hartzell propeller installation manual regarding the appropriate torque for the bolts, but never thought to see if there was a call out for the size of the safety wire. There was, and it was .032”. Back to the hangar this morning and I first removed all of the .041 installed yesterday. The .032 was much easier to work with, and after just an hour and a half, I had everything done and looking good. Sometimes the debates on the forums are misleading, and I’m a firm believer that if a manufacturer has a stated spec, that is the appropriate way to go. More is not always better in these cases.
Before I left for the hangar, I applied a couple of dry transfer decals to the panel, and during the safety wiring, I shot a couple of additional coats of clear to protect them from rubbing off. Once that was dry, I installed the panel and began the process of putting the switches and circuit breakers in. I think the switch and CB labels look awesome…much better than the original plan and aborted attempt of doing everything in dry transfer. It was a nice coincidence that the start switch placard looks exactly like the switch overlays, and once the black display units, GPS & autopilot are installed, I think everything will tie together nicely. One little personal touch…the knob for the aux lights is off of a Fender P-Bass…
I also installed both flaps, added castle nuts and cotter pins to the wing aft spar bolts, and did a little research on the aileron travel stops that I will have to install. Good session today!
