Brief Description:  Propeller governor cable, exhaust hangers & panel

With the throttle quadrant sub panel finished, it was time to reinstall the prop governor cable—a task I was able to do twice due to another one of my classic blunders. I first covered the panel in paper and tape to protect the paint and then began the installation. In order to install this particular cable, it must first go through the correct hole in the sub panel, followed by the addition of a large lock washer and nut to secure it to the back of the subpanel. It then runs above the brake lines, out the correct hole in the firewall where it makes a 90 degree right turn. At this point another nut and lock washer must be added before it runs through a bracket, one more lock washer and nut added, and then finally two plastic covers and a nut before finally getting screwed back into the cable end bearing. Anything out of sequence or forgotten and the process must be repeated. After screwing the cable (1/6 of a turn at a time) back into the bearing, and securing both nuts holding it into the bracket, I stepped back and saw the large nut and washer shown in the first picture…sitting on the table.

After finally finishing the prop cable installation for the second time, I worked on the horizontal piece of the exhaust hanger. The picture shows the details of the installation. I used a long piece of the 3/8” ID fuel line tubing to cross over the nose gear mount and secured everything with cable clamps. Although the whole assembly looks a bit haphazard, it is installed according to Vetterman’s plans, so I hope it works as designed.

During the time I was working on the cable installation and exhaust hanger, I was also applying finish coats to the instrument panel. When I wrapped up for the day, I brought the panel home to let the clear coat cure and be ready for wet sanding and decal application in a week or so. Once that is done, it will go back in the airplane for good. One other little milestone…I passed 2,000 hours logged on this little project. Finish line in sight.
