Brief Description:  Adjusted throttle cable bracket

As I go about finishing up the firewall forward, there are a lot of little tasks that I’m checking off the list—most of them fairly mundane, but necessary to ensure it all gets done properly. One of those tasks was adjusting the bracket that secures the throttle cable as it runs underneath the sump on its way forward to the throttle body at the front of the engine. The primary issue with this particular location is that the Vetterman exhaust crosses under the engine immediately below this bracket, which is both good and bad. The good part is that there is assurance the cable will be held securely and not sag onto the exhaust. The bad in this case is that the bracket allows the exhaust to hang just low enough that I was concerned about heat damage just due to the close proximity to the pipe. I had determined that I could buy another ¼” or so by adjusting the bracket, so I cut the safety wire and removed the two bolts holding it in place.

With the bracket removed, I ground the top edge down a bit, and then bent the bracket up to move it away from the exhaust and towards the bottom of the sump. There is only about 1 ½” total clearance in that area, so any little bit would help. After using touch up paint to cover the area I had ground down, I reattached the bracket and safety wired the assembly. I finished off the process by adding a heat shield on the top of the pipe to give me a little additional protection. With the heat shield and a firesleeve covering the cable, and a little more space, I should have no issues with heat damage.
