Brief Description:  CHT, EGT & manifold pressure wiring

Today I focused on finishing up the right side EGT & CHT probe wiring by duplicating what I had done on the left side. Since the cylinders on a horizontally opposed engine are staggered, the geometry is a little different, but I still used tangs from the rocker covers to provide the main support. Unlike the left side, which was wide open, the right side access is a bit more complicated due to the presence of the cabin heat scat tubes, so I had to work around that, but the first picture shows the results. After installing, I checked that I had four EGT & CHT temperature indications from the cockpit—all good.

Next I moved to the back of the engine and began working on the rat’s nest of sensor wires for the fuel, oil and manifold pressure. My plan is to bundle all of the wires together as they come off of the manifold, and then drop them down to join the main bundle, using knife splices for the connections. My first attempt, shown in the last picture, worked from an operational standpoint, but from an aesthetic stand point I wasn’t all that happy. Three sets of knife splices are pretty bulky when bundled together under heat shrink, so I’m working on a plan to stagger the splices and streamline everything a bit. The good news is that I now have manifold pressure indications.
