Brief Description:  Misc firewall forward installation

Today was a marathon session where I bounced around from task to task. A list of accomplishments included:

--Installed the oil temperature probe and safety wired it. I couldn’t find any documentation that mandated using safety wire, and in some places on the forums people suggested that the crush gasket would serve sort of as a lock washer, but there was a hole in the plug for safety wire and I always need the practice. It only took me two attempts to get it right, I’m getting better.

--Added sensors to the firewall manifold for oil, fuel and manifold pressure. For this task I used a Permatex thread sealant on the pipe threads and during the process did quite a bit of research on acceptable sealants for aviation use. I have decided that two of my oil fittings, installed very early during initial engine work, have an unacceptable sealant and must be removed and reinstalled with the correct sealant. I’m not crazy about doing this, but now is the time and I’ll sleep better knowing it is right.

--Organized the right side wire bundles by adding Adel clamps in various places for support. I also separated and trimmed the CHT and EGT probe wires to approximate length.

--Removed on Adel clamp on the lower right side engine case that was supporting the starter cable, and replaced it with a larger clamp to accommodate the main power wire and field wires running to the alternator. This process was extremely tough due to the total lack of access with the exhaust installed. I finally removed the cabin heat hoses to give me a little more room to work, but it took me over an hour for this one little task.

--Sprayed the throttle quadrant subpanel with gray paint to test for color and ultimately allow me to reinstall the prop governor cable. There is a bunch of work remaining behind the engine, but due to access issues, I can’t do any of it until the prop governor cable is back in place…so I have to paint something in the cockpit. Hard to explain, but that’s how it goes. Really like the color!
