Brief Description:  Flight controls & electrical

Today I completed a couple of open items, to include finishing the elevator push rod, securing a wire bundle from interference with the elevator pushrod assembly, and adding the pitot ground wire to the forward wire bundle and using some standoffs to keep the com and GPS cables from running in direct contact with the power wires.

The session started with determining that the elevator pushrod assembly would probably contact a wire bundle when the stick was pulled full aft, so I fabricated a simple bracket and used two open tooling holes on the spar web to attach. The plans and builder’s manual are fairly sparse on information regarding the stick assembly installation, and without all of the flight controls connected, the pushrod assembly will contact the spar web when the stick is full aft. I find it hard to believe that Van’s would allow something like the spar web to serve as an elevator stop, but until I make the final adjustments to the elevator travel (design travel limits are min 25 degrees and max 30 degrees trailing edge up) I won’t know exactly where the pushrod assembly will stop. Until then, I have assurance that it won’t contact any wire bundles, and that was the purpose of this exercise anyway. The pictures show the final result.

Next I alodined and primed the pushrod and while that was drying I pulled out the flush cutters and removed all of the wire ties between the fuel pump and firewall to allow me to run the missing pitot ground wire. While I had the bundle open, I used some standoffs to separate the com and GPS cables from the power cables, and then tied everything back together again. With this, I think I am about 95% done with forward fuselage wiring and will be ready to final install the fuel pump and fuel lines soon.
