Brief Description:  Odds & Ends

Today was a day that began with some promise, involved a lot of standing and staring, ended with frustration, and convinced me that I need to start working towards a plan each time I come to the hangar. The promising part was the only thing worthy of a picture—I got the GSU 25 located and temporarily installed.

After installing the GSU 25, I went back to pondering the options for running wires from behind the panel to the aft and mid fuselage—essentially, anything aft of the spar. The challenging part of this is that there are only three possible routes and each one has its challenges. The path down either side means navigating down the F702 bulkhead, around the gear weldment, through the spar and then on course. Unfortunately, a good portion of this route is in plain view (exposed wires) or conflicts with other assemblies…and the rudder cables. The center route avoids all of that, but those wires must pass through the center tunnel, the fuel pump support brackets, and then weave around the fuel and brake lines before exiting through the predrilled holes in the spar. What to do?

I decided that one way or another I was going to need to remove the seat floors, so I got out the drill and removed about 50 screws and set the panels aside. It was starting to warm up, and not wanting to dive into something challenging I elected to do one of those little jobs that I had put off for awhile…refitting the aft left portion of the engine baffle where it bowed inwards and didn’t seal well. Two hours later, after removing and replacing the entire left side of the baffling, it was better…marginally…and I remembered that sometimes “I can make this better” is the enemy of “leave well enough alone”…
