Brief Description:  Fuel valve

The goal of today's session was to finish the attach plate for the Andair fuel selector valve and start the process of adapting the fuel lines to fit. The session ended with the plate finished and more aluminum tubing in the recycle bin...

For starters, the Andair valve does not fit the original plate shipped with the kit, so as I mentioned in the last post, I used some .063" aluminum sheet to fabricate a new one. Nothing unusual about the cutting, drilling and nut plate attachment. Another interesting thing about the Andair valve is that it ships with the AN flare fittings only pressed into place--I presume this is to allow modifications for various fuel systems. Each fitting attaches with four screws, each of which much be "stagged" with a punch. I figured out by looking at the top that it is meant to be a method to prevent the screws from backing out, so out with a punch and whack away on a $300 valve. Building can be odd this way.

After a couple of hours, that task was done and I started trying to make it fit with the fuel lines that I had run. That wasn't going to happen. I won't bore my few readers with details, but I ended up pulling all of the lines out and was preparing to leave in frustration. About that time, Tom walked in and in his usual calm manner, proceeded to help me see some options for getting the job done right. It's people like him who are invaluable to have around when you are working on something as important as the fuel system! I left with renewed hope that I could finally get the fuel lines done...
