Brief Description:  Initial panel fitting

After the aforementioned break to do some traveling and attend to other pressing matters, it was back out to the hangar with a box of avionics, wire harnesses, and various other parts that all had to find a home in the project. I'm realizing that at this point, I have so many things I could be working on, it is going to be very important to get organized before I get to the hangar, lest I waste to much time bouncing between tasks.

When I first arrived, I spent a little time doing some inventory and checking on the things I had worked on previously, and then I turned my attention to the panel. It didn't take too much time to realize that I was facing some tough decisions on how to make everything fit. Here's the short story:

The RV-7 has a sub panel that sits about 8" behind the main panel. This sub panel serves (I assume) two purposes--the first is to provide support for the top skin across the width of the aircraft, and the second, as part of the support structure for the instrument panel itself. The challenge I, and apparently many others face, is that the sub panel must be cut in at least one place to allow the 10" deep GPS to fit. As the picture shows, this also affects the center rib and the angle bracket that provides support for the canopy bow and windshield post. This is going to require some research and planning.

I'm always fearful of cutting any metal that isn't called for in the plans, but in this case, I have no option. Done for the day.
