Brief Description:  Canopy finish work

Today was a session devoted to cleaning up a few odds and ends, but mainly spent working on the canopy. Now that the engine mount is installed, there isn't much firewall forward work to do until the engine arrives (this week?), so back to the canopy to continue working on the various sub assemblies.

The side skirts needed to be primed and painted as most of that assembly is very visible inside the cockpit, so ScotchBrite, washing, lacquer thinner and then priming took a couple of hours. Not a lot of dramatic work to report, but once that is done I can go back and actually assemble the canopy. I also spent an hour or so sanding the front edge of the plexi with increasing grades of sandpaper in an attempt to get it looking fairly finished. I'm not sure how I'm going to attach the front edge--the plans call for blind rivets right against the plexi, but I've seen some builders that put a metal strip along the front edge to protect it...seems like there might be some merit there.

I realize that most of what I have going forward, aside from hanging the engine and maybe putting the wings back on, is mostly busy work with not much to show for the effort, but this is the home stretch and I can start to see this thing actually flying.
