Brief Description:  Engine mount

I had to take a break from the hangar to work on a major remodel project at home, and coupled with travel and family activities over the 4th, today was the first opportunity back at the hangar. I had left off with a plan to procure a 3/8" reamer to finish the engine mount attach points, but still don't have one. So...why not use a Unibit? The first challenge to overcome was the fact that the mount really needs to be bolted in place (currently with 1/4" temporary bolts) to ensure that the holes are drilled (reamed?) properly. A Unibit won't fit in the engine mount bracket and hence cannot be used with the mount in place.

No problem, I simply will use a succession of reamers to open the holes, as I have one that is just slightly smaller than 3/8", then remove the mount to finish the hole with a Unibit. Ok...but that requires that I remove the mount, Unibit to 3/8" from the outside, and then climb inside to finish the hole from that direction. But what if the fuselage tips forward with my weight? Not likely, but not worth taking the chance...back out with the saw horse and 2'x6's...this is starting to become difficult. Hmmm...no drill access from inside in at least two places. So what if I just buy a 3/8" reamer and do the whole thing from the outside with the mount in place? I have once again proven that the solution to the builder's challenge is often the correct tool...not necessarily the builder's inventiveness.

And so it goes with me. After an hour in the heat and humidity I called it quits and left for another day with exactly one hole partially complete.
