Brief Description:  Right wing construction

Today started by riveting the aft spar in place. The plans require careful study because there are a number of holes that don't take a rivet at this point. These holes are left open to receive the flap brace, aileron hinges, etc., and since I'm no big fan of drilling rivets out, I just taped over the holes and skipped them! After ensuring I had the correct holes identified, I began riveting. On a day like today, it's easier for me to squeeze the rivets with the hand squeezer as it is much faster to adjust. 1/8" rivets aren't much fun to squeeze by hand, but with only about 30, it wasn't too big of a deal. After I got the aft spar on, I hung the frame in the stand and began the process of working out any twist. To do this, I first leveled the center section (using the 4" x 4" in the picture), then hung plumb bobs on both ends. By measuring the distance from the aft spar to the string, you can easily determine the amount of twist in the structure--about 1/8"...not too bad. After removing the twist, I clamped the entire structure in place and began clecoing the skin on. Based on my desire to get the right fuel tank done, I'll probably wait to match drill or dimple the skins and begin working on the leading edge and tank.
