Brief Description:  Fiberglass work

Now that I'm at that phase where most of the major building is done, it seems like there is an endless list of small...or not so small...tasks that must be completed.

For the longest time I have put off the fiberglass work, but I recently ordered some West Systems resin and hardner from Wick's with the intent to do some glass work during the colder winter months. So...today was the day that I started.

First, find the pieces that I had stashed away all those years ago. After I did a quick inventory and everything was present, I started to figure out how they all went together. Before I got too involved with that, I got a little distracted by fixing what I considered a bad dimpling job on the electric elevator trim (funny how you get more picky as you go along...what was just fine a couple of years ago didn't pass muster when I looked at it today). That little aside done, I went back to the fiberglass.

The builder's manual suggests that any tool that will work for metal will also work for fiberglass, so I just decided to give it a try. Sure enough--snips cut pretty well, the Dremel and sanding drum did a good job of shaping, and a normal #40 bit worked to get the pieces fitted and ready for final trimming. Another "mystery" process that so far doesn't seem too difficult. More to follow I'm sure...
