Today was devoted to fabricating the elevator horn doubler and getting the elevators fitted and installed. After cutting the doubler to rough size with a cutting wheel I used a bench grinder to get the piece to final size. Cleaning, priming, drilling and riveting followed and the piece was done. Finally, I enlarged the attach hole to 3/16" and the job was finished. I spent an hour or so working on making spacers and fitting the elevators on the horizontal stabilizer and then moved on.
Next I focused on getting the elevator pitch trim servo installed. In order to do this I had to remove the bellcrank to drill the attach hole, followed by riveting the bracket in. Ross happened to be at the hangar, so I enlisted him for a couple of rivets and then attached everything.
Still need to prime the pushrod and ensure that the elevator has full travel, but I'm about done with the horizontal and ready to work on the vertical parts of the empennage.
