Brief Description:  Horizontal stab and elevator fitting

After a couple of months working on projects around the house, dealing with family issues, etc, I finally got back to the RV project. At this rate, I will finish sometime around retirement! I did get to spend a couple of days at Sun 'n Fun which helped get me energized to start up again.

For my initial dive back in, I chose to work on a couple of things I had been doing when I last was here. I primed and riveted the elevator pushrod (the inside anyway) and placed it into the fuselage for the initial fitting. Still have to finish the elevator servo fitting and attachment.

After that, I turned back to the tail and started working on fitting the elevators. Back when I finished the elevators I had elected to wait to do the final fitting until the project was a little further along. Today I turned all the way back to the first few pages in the builder's manual for instruction on fitting the elevators. I found that I needed to trim both sides, top and bottom, to remove about 3/4" of skin in order to allow the elevators to move freely. The second picture shows the final trim.

Once I had the elevators fitted I realized that I needed a 1/4" OD piece of tubing to use as a bushing to drill out the elevator horns...nothing like that laying around, so I decided to finish up and call it a day. Good to be back at it.
