Brief Description: Flap installation and misc fuselage work
The files came out again today as I attempted to finish up the trimming necessary to allow the flaps to travel without binding. I'm still a little surprised at the size of the hole necessary for this installation, but wanted to make sure that I removed as little metal as possible and still have free travel of the flaps. The first picture shows the basic size and shape of the holes, and now that I have identified the areas where the flap actuator rod and fittings require clearance, I will go back and clean up the holes to remove any sharp edges.
After working on the flaps for awhile, I moved forward and drilled another attach point for the rudder pedals. Since I failed to get this done before attaching the fuselage/firewall gussets, I have to use an angle drill and a template to make sure I get everything right...not easy, but about the only option.
Finally, I decided to start working on the rudder pedals since I had skipped that step when I came to it in the manual. There are a couple of brackets that need to be fabricated and a lot of edges that need breaking, so the bandsaw and Scotchbrite wheel were put to use. I made and drilled four of eight brackets before callling it a day.
