Brief Description:  Wing mate

Big day today--the wings are on for the first time! Jen and Beth came out with Doug and I, and we met Gavin at the hangar to get things started. After deciding how to orient the fuselage to stay out of the way of the new light installation (not much fun having a light fixture dropped on the project), we moved a few work tables and got everything ready to go.

When Ross arrived we picked up the left wing and started installation. As per the builder's manual, I had ground the threads down on a 7/16" bolt to be used for a drift pin. I lubricated all of the bolts and inserted the wing. No real issues, but I found that there was one rivet interfering with the wing seating completely, so we gently pulled the wing forward to allow me to file down the area on the aft spar that was a conflict. After five more minutes we had the left wing on.

Gavin had to leave for a meeting so we waited a bit and when Dan and Mike arrived, we got going on the right wing. Although I had already filed the aft spar as I had on the left wing, there was an area on the right wing that had a little more interference so we pulled it out and filed a bit to make everything fit better. Back in place, time for a few photos, and the job was done!

Thanks to Steve, Dan, Ross, Mike, Gavin, Jen and Beth for their help and support!
