Brief Description:  Misc wing prep work

Tonight was supposed to be devoted to getting the wings ready for mounting on the fuselage, but as luck would have it I ran into two snags that slowed me down a bit. The first glitch was when I couldn't get one of the AN3 bolts into the tank attach bracket no matter what I tried.

When I riveted the lower skins on the right wing I had already bolted the tank in place. That tank had to come off to replace a bad nutplate and I thought I had the same issue on the left wing. So, off with the tank. It is not much fun to do this when the skins are riveted on...it can be done, but I really don't want to do it once the wings are on the fuselage for good.

The nutplate looked fine, and I realized there was some primer that had run into the threads causing the problem. After tapping out the threads I spent the next 30 minutes putting new bolts in and attaching screws.

The second challenge came after I riveted the flap hinge to the skin and flap brace. On the right wing, I had noticed that the 3-4 rivet callout didn't work and used 3-4.5 rivets. The reason for this? I hadn't followed the plans correctly and put the hinge between the skin and the brace instead of the brace between the hinge and the skin. While there is nothing to say that I can't just leave it this way, I decided it was probably best to fix so I started drilling rivets out. Rookie mistake, I'll finish that tonight and be ready for wing mate next week when I have some help.
