Brief Description:  Wing skin riveting

Today my brother Doug came back out to help Ross and I finish riveting the left wing. Based on what we learned yesterday, we proceeded first to rivet the skin to the aft spar. When I first riveted on the right wing skins, I followed Van's instructions to go one bay at a time, working up the rib toward the front spar. What I learned was that this made the aft spar rivets very difficult to check and sometimes pretty hard to buck. When we changed our method to get the aft spar done first it seemed to make the whole process go faster and with better quality control.

I spent the session with my arm in the wing, Ross shot the rivets and Doug put a rivet in each hole as we proceeded. With three of us working like this we got the skin on in three hours, for a total of five and a half hours for the left wing. The right wing took us just over seven...pretty good learning curve.

Well, the wings are riveted and ready to attach to the fuselage--this is a big day for the project and much thanks to Dan, Ross and Doug for their help!
