Brief Description:  Wing & Fuselage Move

Yesterday was a big day for my RV-7A project--it moved out of my garage and into a hangar! I wanted to make sure that this move went without a hitch, so I enlisted the help of my brother Doug and his trailer to get everything moved. First the fuselage. It had been sitting on a stand that I will continue to use, but I knew that I couldn't afford to have it slide around--or off--of the stand during transport, so I built two legs out of 2" x 6" lumber and some 23/32" plywood I found at Home Depot. The spar attach point is exactly 1 7/16" wide and I had scratched my head for awhile trying to figure out how I was going to get wood to fit that when I stumbled upon this solution. Two pieces sandwiched together worked perfectly.

Once I built the legs and Doug arrived with the trailer, we loaded it with Jen's help and started on our way. My buddy Dan Grace met us at the airport to help unload (thanks Dan!) and with all the help it was a completely uneventful trip and soon were on our way back for the wings. As the wings were already in their cradle, I simply had to remove the ailerons and make sure everything was securely fastened. Then we set off for the airport and soon had the wings in place next to the fuselage. This hangar is roomy, I can't imagine trying to build much past this stage without the space I now have!

The rest of the day was spent running back and forth moving work benches, tables, flight controls, etc. It will take a little time to get everything put in place, but I should be back building within the week.
