Brief Description:  Corvair Engine Parts

Tyler and I went to Jack Nelson's house today. Jack spoke to me earlier in the week and said that he had a replacement crankshaft available and a few other parts I might find useful. I asked what he wanted for the lot and he said, "$100 and a 6-pack of Miller Lite." I said "fair enough", and here we are...

I couldn't find a 6-pack, so I took a 12-pack. Jack said, "well, I guess we ought to have one." Anyhow... Jack had all the parts laid out for us to look over... crankshaft with WW safety shaft threads, OT-10 camshaft, spare heads, distributor, connecting rods, valve covers, baffles, case, and WW safety shaft kit and hybrid studs. He asked if I was interested and I said, "well, I need the crankshaft, but the other stuff would be nice to have for spares." We loaded it all up and I offered him the $100, but he wouldn't take it. He said, "my airplane is done, I don't need that stuff." A bit later I offered him the money again, but he wouldn't have it.

Before I left, Jack asked if I had a carburetor. I said, "no, but I've heard that the Strombergs work well." He set a Marvel-Schebler MA-3 in front of me and said, "Roger White gave me this some time ago for nothing... if he doesn't mine me passing it on, it's yours." WOW! That is a nice (and somewhat expensive) carburetor. It probably needs a rebuild, but still... WOW! I hope Roger doesn't mind... I'd really like to use it.
