Brief Description:  CHT Testing

Received new CHT thermocouples from Roy Szarafinski a while back, and finally replaced the Westach dual CHT instrument that was damaged while Roy had it for testing. Using a calibrated oven and instrumentation I was able to apply known temperatures. In the first and second photos, it appears that the left CHT reading is slightly low, but what I discovered is that that register is slightly sticky, and with a light tap or two, the needle comes up to read equal to the right indicator. The readings are 10-15 degrees below the actual applied temps, which I think may be attributed somewhat to the elevated temperatures at the cold junction (above 75F). However, the reading at 400F is very close to actual, which is what I would hope to see in that range. Many cheap analog instruments are calibrated at the center of their mechanical range (in this case, 400F), and the rest of the scale is best case based upon the quality of the components, so I think this is as good as I can expect with this instrument, and knowing the deviation at lower temps will help me to interpolate more accurate measurements.
