Several weeks back I started on a cabinet in which I was going to put my compressor to keep the noise in the shop and for the neighbors to tolerable leves; that is when I had just purcahsed a Craftsman direct dirve unit. Its was so loud that I decided to replace it with a much more expensive belt driven unit with a cast iron, oil lubricated pump,(Maxus brand). The replacement was much quieter, quite tolerable in the shop. The noise level is very low.
